Crawling My Way to the Top
Today marked a milestone in my stealthy (some might say even anonymous), careful (read: mind-numbingly slow), well-thought-out (or, perhaps, haphazard), catapult (okay, leisurely stroll) to the top (or thereabouts) of Tinseltown: I got a promotion. Only a few years in the making, I'm now a fully-functioning exec-level employee of my world-dominating movie studio, complete with a dee-luxe cubicle in the sky-eye-eye. Alright, I've already had the cubicle for a while, but now I've got the title and the raise to go with it.
The good news is it was very generous. The not-so-good news is it's about a grand less than I was making when I left New York. The other good news is I was starting from scratch when I got here and I'm back up to my old salary in less than half the time it took to make it the first time. The other not-so-good news… well, really there's not any other not-so-good news. It's a good deal, it's fair recognition, I enjoy the job. No, it's not where I'd like to be, but it's better than where I've been.
I'm still a drone, but now I'm a drone with the tiniest bit of caché. To paraphrase a woman I once knew, "That and $4.45 will get you a grande iced mocha light with malt and whipped cream". But now I can slightly more easily afford the grande iced mocha light.

Now really, really good news would begin with the phrase, "Oh, and I got laid last night..."

Unfortunately, with the most recent significant other several time zones and a couple continents away, really, really good news of that type is momentarily on hold.

I'm bugged that the above "comment deleted" makes it look like I'm stifling free speech -- or that this site has been found by my psycho stalker. Neither scenario is true. However, I'm grateful to the spambot that sent the deleted comment, because it inspired me to return to my abandoned little blog. However, that spam is also the reason I'm using word verification now.
